We are dedicated to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or starting point, is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. A key part of achieving this is through the effective use of Pupil Premium and Pupil Premium Plus funding.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding (currently £1550 per eligible pupil) provided by the government to state-funded schools in England. Its primary purpose is to help close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
Who qualifies for Pupil Premium?
- Free School Meals (FSM) “Ever 6”: Pupils who have registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
- Service Children: Pupils from Reception to Year 11 with a parent in the regular armed forces, or those in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence.
What is Pupil Premium Plus (PP+)?
Pupil Premium Plus is specialised funding (currently £2690 per eligible pupil) targeted specifically at children who have experience of the care system. Because of early-life disruption, loss, or trauma, these children often require targeted support for their emotional wellbeing as well as their academic progress.
Who qualifies for Pupil Premium Plus?
- Children currently looked after by a local authority (in care).
- Children who were previously looked after and have since left care through an Adoption Order, a Special Guardianship Order (SGO), or a Child Arrangements Order (CAO).
How We Use This Funding
We strategically invest our funding to deliver the highest possible impact for our eligible students. Rather than acting as an isolated personal budget, the funding is pooled to provide targeted, robust support tailored to individual needs. This includes:
- Academic Interventions: High-quality 1-to-1 or small-group tutoring to accelerate progress in core subjects.
- Emotional & Mental Health Support: Specialised counselling, mentoring, and support for social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH).
- Trauma-Informed Practice: Ongoing training for our staff to understand and respond sensitively to the needs of children with complex backgrounds.
- Enrichment Opportunities: Ensuring all children can fully participate in school trips, extracurricular clubs, and wider learning experiences.
Important Information for Parents & Carers
- For Free School Meals / Pupil Premium: If you believe your family may be eligible for Free School Meals, we strongly encourage you to apply via the local authority. Even if your child prefers packed lunches, registering ensures our school receives this crucial funding.
- For Previously Looked-After Children (PP+): Unlike standard Pupil Premium, this does not happen automatically. If your child was adopted from care or placed under an SGO/CAO, you must inform our school office and provide the relevant legal documentation (such as the adoption certificate or order) so we can claim the funding on their behalf. All information is treated with the strictest confidence.
