Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum

At Horsforth Newlaithes, we have redeveloped our curriculum so that it is ambitious, inclusive and designed to give every child the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to thrive.

Our curriculum is based on our six core values: we are inclusive, we are courageous, we are caring, we are joyful, we are ambitious, and we are healthy. Across the year, we take each core value as a focus for the half term’s learning: through our curriculum, we actively teach and nurture these values so that they become a part of our children.

We also match each half term’s learning with a theme. These themes ensure we provide a broad and balanced curriculum by selecting content that teaches children the best of what has been thought and said. Our chosen themes match with our core values to provide a rich, meaningful and deep curriculum.

HT1: We are Inclusive – Identity, Place and Community

HT2: We are Courageous – Peace, Conflict and Justice

HT3: We are Caring – Environment, Stewardship and Sustainability

HT4: We are Joyful – Heritage, Culture and Expression

HT5: We are Ambitious – Discovery, Progress and Wonder

HT6: We are Healthy – Journeys, Struggle and Survival

We teach a broad and balanced curriculum that builds carefully from the Early Years to Year 6. Learning is deliberately sequenced so that children develop secure knowledge over time, make meaningful connections between subjects and increasingly understand the world around them.

Our curriculum reflects both our local community and the wider world. Through rich texts, purposeful talk, carefully chosen experiences and explicit teaching, we want pupils to become knowledgeable, curious, confident and thoughtful learners.

Detailed curriculum information will continue to be developed and added to this website as our curriculum evolves.
